HFMH Ambulatory Surgical Center Surgical Courtyard Infill Addition

Roncelli, Inc. provided comprehensive construction management services for Henry Ford Macomb Hospital’s Surgical Courtyard Infill Project.

This project was composed of 32,300 SF of horizontal and vertical expansion, some of which was constructed over the existing hospital operations.  New floor areas were provided for the expansion of the hospital’s Cystoscopy Services department, and future shell space to house seven operating room’s (OR’s), one Hybrid OR and support areas. The project’s 26-month schedule comprised of two major phases broken into 22 segmented sub-phases of work, to eliminate risk to hospital operations.

Challenges included the installation of deep, cast-in-place caissons within the interior courtyard and the strategic staging of structural steel girder lifts over the hospital, taking place during decreased hospital activity times, above areas that were temporarily vacated. A new, four stop patient elevator was installed within the former courtyard space to provide vertical transport from the existing and future OR areas to patient beds in the upper floors of the hospital.

Upgrades to two major air handling unit’s (AHU’s) and the installation of a new AHU were included in the project’s work scope along with new power and distribution to the newly expanded areas.
