This Construction Management project involved the improvement of DTE Energy’s security at their main employee entrance to their Detroit headquarters. Along with this enhanced security there was a desire to add visitor badging capabilities and to enlarge and renovate the lobby waiting area. Heightened security was accomplished by installing three optical turnstiles. These turnstiles have the ability to recognize both DTE employee badges as well as temporary visitor badges.

The lobby is located in the MGM Grand Casino parking deck, which DTE shares with the Casino. This parking deck provides the majority of the DTE employee parking as well as visitor parking. The former lobby configuration did not allow for the issuing of visitor badges. By adding a new security desk with enhanced capabilities, this function became available. DTE branding was added on both the interior and exterior of the lobby along with protective curbing and lighted bollards. Since the existing entry and security functions had to remain open during the entire construction duration, significant coordination and temporary barriers were required. Critical “cut overs” were performed on second shifts and weekends.
