A history of building excellence

Roncelli has been building for over half a century, which means if you select us as a construction partner, you can be confident we’ll be around to finish the job. Skip Roncelli laid the foundation for an honest, efficient and client-first construction firm in 1966, and his son, Gary Roncelli, has grown the company to be nationally ranked.

In 1966, Raymond "Skip" Roncelli, John Patrico and Nick Ritz founded Roncelli Trenching in a small building on Metropolitan Parkway, located in Sterling Heights, Mich. Skip relocated the business two lots east as the business flourished. This would become the location of the new headquarters in 1987, where it remains to this day.

In 1969, Skip Roncelli worked hard to build his business and mentor his eldest son, Gary, to lead the company. Skip taught Gary skill, dedication and integrity with a unique boots-on-the-ground style.

1980
Changing the name to reflect the business growth, the firm became Roncelli, Inc., in 1980. Over the next four years, a strong construction industry would evolve. As a result, Roncelli moved into the construction services industry, becoming a construction manager and building for the big three automotive companies and the manufacturing sector.

1989
Upon the passing of Skip Roncelli in 1989, Gary Roncelli was named president. Along with Tom Wickersham, the treasurer, the firm would expand its client base to the commercial and institutional market sectors providing services to Home Depot, National Amusements, Northwest Airlines and Huntington Bank.

1995
Roncelli became one of Metro Detroit's largest general contractors, ranking at number eight by Crain's Detroit Business. Roncelli would continue to garner this designation year after year.

2006
Roncelli celebrated its 40th anniversary and headquarter expansion. The firm tripled in size in a matter of seven years and was faced with severe housing demands. Its solution was a 25,000 square-foot, two-story expansion that quadrupled its office area.

After serving two decades at Roncelli, Tom Wickersham was named president. To date, Tom is the first person outside of the Roncelli family to lead the company.

Roncelli expanded its footprint outside of the United States and into Canada and Mexico, where the firm oversaw large construction projects for two global automotive manufacturers.

2016
In 2016, Roncelli celebrated its 50th anniversary by announcing an office in Detroit, Mich., and becoming certified as a Detroit-Based Business. The certification reflected the firm's commitment to the revitalization efforts that were taking place in Detroit.

In step with growth and continuing the family legacy, son of Gary Roncelli, Gino Roncelli, is named vice president of Roncelli. Gino's passion for innovation, technology and company culture is planned to lead the firm's expansion into the next decade and beyond.

Roncelli celebrates 55 years of service. The firm remains committed to raising construction standards by providing clients professional and reliable construction services and a diverse and experienced team, trade partners included.
