The LG Chem Michigan (LGCMI) H-Project consists of 615,000 square feet of manufacturing, assembly and storage space for lithium-ion battery production targeted for use in electric and hybrid electric vehicles (EV/HEV). Plant construction includes corporate offices, production and assembly areas and 120,000 square feet of special clean and dry rooms.

Roncelli, Inc. was selected as the project’s design-builder primarily because of it’s aligned culture, shared values, understanding of critical manufacturing process and its commitment to deliver exceptional results consistant with LGCMI’s business objectives.

The entire design-build process, including the installation of manufacturing equipment, was completed within fifteen months. The project schedule included five key milestones to turnover critically sequenced areas for LGCMI’s testing and validation of the manufacturing processes. Roncelli also assisted in the equipment startup and led the commissioning process for all systems.

The H-Project is a critical component to LGCMI’s natural progression to establish cell and pack assembly capability within the U.S. The completion of this facility will demonstrate their commitment to meet automotive customer product demand and requirements.

“…construction was ahead of schedule…(and) the planned start of production has been moved up three months.”  Kee Eun, Business Planning Director, LG Chem Michigan, Inc. – at Holland Area Chamber of Commerce’s Early Bird Breakfast presentation, September 12, 2011.
