In May 2018 the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute announced the renovation and expansion of its Lawrence and Idell Weisberg Cancer Treatment Center in Farmington Hills, Michigan into a full-service, outpatient oncology center. The purpose of this exciting multi-phased renovation was to bring convenience to the patients and families without the stress of heading downtown Detroit to a large hospital campus.
Phase I was completed in May 2019 and included a state-of-the-art Gamma Knife Suite. Procedure rooms, nurse station and a waiting areas were also renovated during this phase along with two (2) mobile MRI and PET scanner ports.
Phase II was completed in August 2021 and increased the quantity of exam rooms to 17. Not only are these rooms larger, they are also brighter with motivating and uplifting aesthetics, which are present throughout the new facility. They also feature new exam tables, which adjust in all directs for added comfort. Additionally, the back-of-house areas had been improved with a new staff locker room, lunchroom and physician workroom.
By January 2022 the new Weisberg Cancer Center entrance opened to the public as part of Phase III which included the unveiling of the brand new entrance and lobby as well as a beautiful new canopy for the new entrance way outside.
Overall the finished project allowed the expansion of exam rooms and clinical waiting area and brought new services including and Women’s Corridor, Mammography Unit, Bone Densitometry Imaging (DEXA), Interventional Radiology (IR) Suite, Nuclear Medicine – Gamma Camera and Procedure space.
The project was completed within an active treatment facility which required the Roncelli team to communicate and coordinate with the KC facility to ensure utility shutdowns did not disrupt day-to-day operations.
