DMC Operating Rooms (Phase C)

This project included the construction of four state of the art Operating Rooms in areas previously occupied by the Blood Bank, Frozen Section / Grossing Lab and smaller, outdated Operating Rooms. The project also incorporated the relocation of the Blood Bank and Frozen Section / Grossing Lab to an area previously occupied by Anesthesia. Nearby work also included the construction of a new male locker room with showers and related restroom facilities.

The project resulted in not only the four new operating rooms, but also updated support facilities, paperless electronic information systems, and several new comfort-orientated “family-style” privacy areas for patients undergoing both extended stay and same-day surgery.

Project challenges included the coordination of simultaneous renovations of non-adjacent areas of the hospital, involving select demolition, debris management, and the construction of temporary protection to active egress and material flow corridors in a busy hospital environment.
